Displayed outside Hendy Curzon Gardens Atelier is our commissioned piece by the incredible artist Dominic Gubb. Gubb’s art focused on repurposing reclaimed materials such as old gym climbing ropes, reclaimed wood and leather from discarded sofas, to create sculptures of dogs as exclusively bespoke commissioned pieces. He was known as The King of Recycling. We collaborated with Dominic Gubb back in 2013 for a commissioned show garden piece based on Winston Churchill’s ‘black dog’ bipolarity, raising awareness and promoting mental wellness through immersion in garden & landscape architecture.
Dominic’s creativity and craftsmanship shines through every piece he created, capturing the unique spirit and soulful energy of each creature. The lifelike sculptures are rich with personality, and the texture of the rope adds a tactile quality that brings the work to life. We often see people instinctively reach out to pat the head of the rope dog, which is a testament to the emotional connection Gubb’s artwork inspires within people. Our rope dog has followed us through many changes and projects over the years and has always inspired and brought happiness to our creative spaces. Sadly Dominic has since passed away so our rope dog will continue to be cherished for years to come, serving as a reminder of Gubb’s talent and legacy within the art world.
